App Vanishes Did You Even Know It Existed

Teknozip – Microsoft is continuing its app rationalisation strategy, confirming the sunset date for an Android application that many users may not even be aware of: Outlook Lite. This move follows a similar decision earlier in the year to discontinue support for another mobile app.

The tech giant will officially retire Outlook Lite on May 25, 2026. Designed for low-specification devices and areas with limited network connectivity, Outlook Lite targeted users with 2G and 3G connections and phones with 1GB of RAM or less, while occupying a mere 5MB of storage space. However, this streamlined experience came at the cost of advanced features found in the full Outlook app.

New downloads of Outlook Lite were disabled on October 6th, 2025. Existing users could continue using the app until the final cut-off date.

According to message MC1276508 from the Microsoft 365 Message Center, the retirement of Outlook Lite aligns with a broader initiative to consolidate resources and focus development efforts on the primary Microsoft Outlook Mobile app.

After May 25, 2026, the Outlook Lite app will no longer provide access to mailbox features. While users can still launch the application, accessing emails and navigation will be disabled. User accounts and emails will not be deleted, but users will need to download the full Outlook app to regain access.
