As demonstrated by Microsoft, a game running natively at 1440p on the ROG Xbox Ally X achieves frame rates of around 35-40 FPS. With Auto SR enabled, the same game, rendered at a lower resolution and upscaled to 1440p, runs at a stable 46-50 FPS. Crucially, the visual difference between the two modes is barely perceptible, showcasing the effectiveness of Auto SR’s upscaling capabilities.
Currently, Auto SR is available to Xbox Insiders enrolled in the preview program, and it is initially limited to docked mode. This restriction is due to the fact that image quality drops are more noticeable on larger screens and higher resolutions, where some games struggle to maintain smooth frame rates. Microsoft plans to expand Auto SR support to handheld mode in the future.
To access Auto SR, Xbox Insiders need to update their system and enable the feature in the Game Bar. Once enabled, Auto SR automatically upscales compatible games, delivering improved performance without requiring any manual adjustments.
